Disable “create your drawing here”

It amazes me how long I’ll put up with something that annoys me before I search google and find out how to fix it.

So it is with the stupid drawing canvas in MS Word.

So I did a search for disable “create your drawing here” and got the (rather simple) solution.

In MS Word:

Tools > Options > General tab: Clear the check box for “Automatically create drawing canvas when inserting AutoShapes.”

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! MS Word has some annoying features, but that one takes the cake. I was ready to rip my hair out over that stupid drawing canvas. You’ve made my day!

What DJT said! The most annoying feature since Clippy, IMHO. Does MS ever ask people what they think of their ‘improvements’? Presumably not…

Yep, just looked it up (again) here.

Amazing how they can have some helpful things on Windows and Office, but something as simple as being able to right click the “Create your drawing here” box and tell it to go away (either once, or forever) seems to elude them.

So, instead of putting the option in something like, I don’t know, the Drawing toolbar, or possibly in View, it has to be an unusual option in General. I would have eventually found it, but not by deduction!
