Last night the Canterbury Crusaders vs Western Force game started at about 11pm NZ time. For obvious reason, I chucked the HDD Recorder on and went to bed. I was very glad I didn’t just go to bed.
For those not in the know about the Rugby Union Super 14, this is the story. The Crusaders are number 1, unbeaten and an extremely strong team. The Force are last on the table of 14, very little to write home about, except there passionate supporters. Those supporters got a treat.
The Crusaders looked like they were expecting that any second they would be winning the game, and there wasn’t anything they needed to do to make it happen.
The score at half time was 20-8 to the force. “Damn, the force have done well so far. It’ll be a shame when they lose.”
The score with ten minutes to go was 23-16 to the force. “Can they really win? Their first win of the season and Crusader’s first loss?”
The last three minutes were nothing short of riveting. The Crusaders scored a desperately needed try and the Force were disallowed in a video ref decision that will no doubt be criticised. The truth was that it was completely 50/50, so either side would have felt hard done by,
Many have been saying that the Super 14 is crap watching. I beg to differ.
