Stuart Dickinson. Almost nothing makes me nauseous faster than that name. Maybe his face.
With nocents seemingly down for the count, I’m unable to extricate my old complaints of this guy. He is one of Australia’s “leading” referees, and according to me, is the worst referee that the international rugby world has ever seen. The players, coaches and commentators are somewhat controlled in what they can say, not me. Idiot.
He is one of the few people I would actually abuse if I met them on the street. I’m sure he gets that a lot.

The first All Blacks game of the year was very messy. I sat shaking most of the night. Each AB test I watch reduces my life expectancy by a week.
The AB rucks were a mess in the first half. The team were playing a less “tight” game plan. What this meant, is that they wanted to spend less time in rucks, and more time running the ball. So theoretically, a player would run and be tackled. One or two players would go into the ruck, clear the ball and it would move on quickly, allowing the dynamic AB team to score a hundred points.
What actually happened was that a passionate Irish team hammered the AB’s every time they ran, and competed heavily at ruck time. What happened was that turnovers occurred either directly, or secondarily as the attackers weren’t able to play with the same rhythm they otherwise would have.
The AB’s didn’t seem to change anything until told to at halftime (this is perhaps the most worrisome thing of the evening). After halftime they dominated the rucks and mauls, and kept the ball in “tight” by running it up amongst the forwards.
Ex North Harbour legend Troy “How will I get sent off this game” Flavell came off the bench in the second half, and made a huge impact, even scoring a try.
Nonu. What can I say. Either you have it or you don’t. He doesn’t and never will. He may be a good NPC and Super 14 centre, but he just isn’t good enough to occupy the position. I don’t have any passionate views on who could take his spot, but I’m pretty sure you could do a lot better with many of the available options. They are Caleb Ralph (Junior AB’s), Mils Muliaina (Fullback Tonight) and Anthony Tuitavake (Junior AB’s). Tuitavake was impressive last night against Samoa and Mils was impressive tonight, and with the option of Leon MacDonald at fullback should be the logical choice.
Anyway, I think I’ve said my bit. Hopefully it’s coherent. It’s time to lower that blood pressure and ward off a stroke. Hope you all are having a good weekend.
