We’re back!
Last week we completed a twelve day, twelve hundred kilometer Corin Christmas and New Year holiday break by returning to sunny Auckland.
On the Friday before Christmas we packed and jumped in the car, driving South as far as Taupo, where we stayed at the Tiki Lodge. Tiki Lodge is a fairly new backpackers in central Taupo.
Megan had done some in depth web research to determine the best place to stay and I have to say that her effort paid off. Tiki Lodge was fairly basic, but was clean, had great facilities, great location and was reasonably priced. I’d recommend them to anyone and we’ll probably stay there again.
The next morning after a great breakfast at a local cafe, we headed out to the Wairakei Resort, intent on a long awaited round of golf. We ended up playing on their 9 hole golf course which was fairly quiet and was really perfect in every way for a round for two golfers who hadn’t played in years.
I’ll have to “borrow” some pics since we didn’t take our own.
After a great round, we hit the road, and reached Palmerston North uneventfully.
The next couple of days were spent in Christmas preparations, meanwhile I was counting down the sleeps…
Amongst lovely presents from everyone, was a little black plastic box that I had been waiting for about ten days to open.
Indeed! It is my beautiful Nintendo DS Lite. I love it.
As you can see, I picked up one of the must have games to play on Christmas day and the week following (the trademe price for DS Games had spiked ridiculously in the buildup to Christmas so I stuck with just one), Mario Kart.
It’s a great game (I’ll go into my thoughts a bit more in the next few days) and as has been found by every DS Lite owner with a partner, Megan was almost as much of a fan as I am. Time will tell whether Megan’s enjoyment extends to the next two games I’ve bought. The Gameboy Advance version of Donkey Kong 3, and Touch Golf: Birdie Challenge (aka True Swing Golf).
After boxing day, we packed up again and headed further south to Foxton Bible Camp. The weather wasn’t wonderful, with a cold wind in place most days. However we had some great teaching, sport and other activities.
So that brings us to yesterday where we jumped in the car and made the seven hour trip back to Auckland.
It was certainly nice to have some time off and to get away from the hustle and bustle of Auckland. However it was also nice to come back to the comforts of home.
So what does 2007 bring for us? Well in February we’re planning on moving to the UK (probably last week in February).
For this site, we’ll be celebrating our first birthday on February 28th, and if I get around to it, the present will be a new design.
I like the freshness and new start that a new year brings. I wish our readers a happy new year, and a meaningful 2007.
