I get the impression that most DC++ enthusiasts in New Zealand are quite aware of all the New Zealand Only DC++ hubs.

However just in case you were using Silver Server (dc.silverserver.co.nz) and find it down, and don’t know where else to go, I would suggest you go to the DCNZ New Zealand Hublist.

There’s quite a few hubs, and when any one goes down, there are usually others still up, so it’s worth keeping them on your favorites list.

Random Photos

Occasionally I take photos that seem interesting (at least to me) and wait for an excuse to include them in a post. That hasn’t happened for these ones, so I’m engineering one.

The photos below of a yoghurt container date from my trip tp Singapore. I used to smuggle them out from the buffet breakfast and eat them during the day. These photos are evidence of the creativity of the human mind when confronted with the boring reality of study.

Also, on the return trip from Palmerston a month or so ago, our beautiful Toyota Corolla went through 250,000. That’s a quarter of a million.

Nice.

So the plan is to keep driving it till we hit a million, and then we should be able to sell it for heaps.

Waitakere Tram

Author: Pete

The other week we had Megan’s Dad come and stay for the weekend. This got us out of the house. One highlight was the Waitakere Tramline.

Nestled just above the Waitakere Filter station (shoves chemicals into otherwise filthy water to make it palitable for water hungry Auckland), is the rather miniature (doesn’t Megan look comfortable) railway.

Megan and Bruce on Waitakere Tram

The story (at least the way I remember it) is that when they were building the dam (pictured below) they hawled all the materials for the construction (except for the gravel for the concrete) from the train station in West Auckland to the dam, by a pony (or donkey or something) drawn tram. So, there were never any passengers, and all the tunnels were only built to be big enough for a pony.

So, if you happen to be bigger than a pony, tough. In fact, there are some hairy moments where the tram slows down and you have to squeeze all your limbs inside the tram (fairly tricky for some of us) as there is a clearance of just a few centimetres.

All up the experience was definitely worth doing. Adults are $10 and kids are $5.

It reminded me of the log flume ride at Rainbows End. The similarity was so striking that as we cruised through the tunnels with trickeling water running down them, I struggled to believe that the rock walls were rock, and not painted plaster. The feelings were enhanced by features like this.

If you’re looking for something to do in Auckland (about half an hour’s drive from the central city), and want to get a taste of the beautiful Waitakere Ranges, I would recommend you give the Waitakere Tramline a go.

Following success in predicting three of the most successful Christian songs in New Zealand in recent times, I have a new one. I turned on kduv today and was hit by Overflow – My Days Are Better.

It sounds a little like a bigger version of Gavin Degraw. There are all the normal musical features, with a healthy chunk of piano chucked in for good measure. Here are the lyrics, courtesy of lyricsdownload.com.

Sometimes the past comes back to haunt me
Sometimes the future seems unknown
But today has enough worries of its own
Sometimes I’m deep in the valley
Sometimes I’m high on the mountaintop
But today none of that matters

Sometimes it’s hard to believe that I’ve got You and You’re all I need
My days are better, my days are better with You
Everyday I wanna see, more of You and less of me
My days are better, my days are better with You

Sometimes I feel just like a hero
Sometimes I feel like I have let you down
But today, I wish those days would disappear
I know You’ve been through the valley
I know You’ve been on the mountaintop
But today, Lord You know I need You here

Oh Lord, I can’t help but wonder
Why You never gave up on me
I am nothing more than a desperate man in need
You’re the one who sets me free
