New Blog: Auckland2011

Author: Pete

As regular readers will know by now, every now and again I decide to start a new blog or site on a whim.  Sometimes they turn out to be successful and sometimes they don’t.

I’ve kicked off another one, and given that it has three posts, it’s already more likely to succeed than those failures above.

Auckland 2011 is a blog focused on events  happening in Auckland next year.  Obviously the Rugby World Cup is the biggest of those, but there will be a bunch of other things going on during the year, and I intend to share information pertaining to the events, news and once they kickoff, photos and videos as they’re available.

Oh, and by the way, we’re not going to win the world cup.  I said as much in this video:

I saw a google advertisement this morning on one of my favorite technology blogs for 100mb monthly data allowance on prepay for $10 from Vodafone. This is exactly what I’ve been waiting for.

For those of you with data capable phones, you’ll be aware that Vodafone put in a great offer on prepay for 10mb for $1 on a daily basis.

However what annoyed me was that most days I don’t need 10mb, I might just want to check my emails (maybe 0.5mb) and sync my outlook calendar (0.5mb) but I still have to pay the $1.  Over a month that adds up to $30 which is not reasonable for the amount I would be using it (based on that I would be using just 10% of my allowance).

So, you can understand why I am stoked to find Vodafone giving me 100mb (instead of 300mb) for $10 instead of $30. Hopefully this is just the start.

Rugby World Cup Video

Author: Pete

It must be some sort of a roll, but I have another video for you.  Somewhat shorter this one features the video I took when we went to our two rugby world cup games in Edinburgh and Cardiff.

It’s taken a while to get to the point where I felt like I could make and publish this video.  Looking at my “diary entry” at the end I think “how melodramatic am I” until I think back and remember that this is a 100% reflection of how I felt.  I honestly felt like the world had ended.

Anyway, check it out here.
