I saw a google advertisement this morning on one of my favorite technology blogs for 100mb monthly data allowance on prepay for $10 from Vodafone. This is exactly what I’ve been waiting for.

For those of you with data capable phones, you’ll be aware that Vodafone put in a great offer on prepay for 10mb for $1 on a daily basis.

However what annoyed me was that most days I don’t need 10mb, I might just want to check my emails (maybe 0.5mb) and sync my outlook calendar (0.5mb) but I still have to pay the $1.  Over a month that adds up to $30 which is not reasonable for the amount I would be using it (based on that I would be using just 10% of my allowance).

So, you can understand why I am stoked to find Vodafone giving me 100mb (instead of 300mb) for $10 instead of $30. Hopefully this is just the start.

So, some of you may have been wondering what we’ve been up to for the last few weeks. Well, for the most part, we’ve been working. Since that’s not particularly exciting, I’ll move on.

We also went on a ‘flying’ visit back home to New Zealand for Amanda’s (Megan’s sister’s) wedding. So, apologies if you didn’t see us or hear from us, but we were only in the country for about six days. Craziness.

So yeah, the wedding was cool (literally) and Megan may fill you in some more on that herself, and we enjoyed catching up with family and friends from around the world in Palmerston North.

In preparation for the trip I put together our final outstanding video which is a collection of random shots from around Manchester and the greater Newcastle area.

I’ve noticed that increasing the length of a video increases the editing time exponentially. Everything for an 18 minute video takes much more than twice as long as making a 10 minute video. So yeah, I was pretty stressed trying to put this together, so please forgive any production inadequacies. As always there’s a higher quality divx available.

Since we’ve been back, Tynemouth featured in the ‘Mouth of the Tyne Festival’. We weren’t overly impressed with proceedings, but apparently things were more impressive on the South side of the Tyne. However we did have grandstand seats for Saturday night’s fireworks display.

The next few months are pretty busy. We have my family visiting this weekend and next, the Edinburgh Tattoo, our central Europe road trip and wedding and the Rugby World Cup. It’ll be a busy time.

That’s right, it’s been a quiet week so far in the Corin household as I’m all by myself.

However, before you all chime in with “I knew it had to happen eventually”, I should tell you that she’s just gone to the Lake District for a few days with our friend Amy from New Zealand.

It was a somewhat spur of the moment decision, she left on Sunday morning and I think is coming back on Thursday.

So I’ve been getting up to plenty of football watching, game playing and PC overclocking.

In exciting news this week, we received our UK Drivers Licenses, which means we can finally buy a car. We could have bought a car beforehand, but having UK licenses saves us about £200 a year on insurance. Just in case you’re wondering, that brings the annual bill for third party, fire and theft insurance down to approximately £700. Ouch. But you have to do what you have to do.

We’ve also got a public holiday this weekend, and I’m really looking forward to it. The last couple of weeks have been pretty tough at work, lots of long, stress-filled hours. If we have a car by then, we may even venture afield. I guess time will tell.

PS: By clicking that “Add Comment” link at the bottom of this post you could assuage your guilt over not emailing or calling us with just a few words. It’d also help us feel that we’re not writing these posts just for our imaginary friends.

Our Leaving Video

Author: Pete

I am so far behind with the video editing (I’ll be recording our third video when we go to London this weekend) but we finally have our first video up for viewing. This one was kind of done as a bit of a diary for ourselves to remember what it was like in those last couple of weeks, but I thought I’d release it here as some people might like to see it.

Hopefully I’ll get a higher quality divx up here for download shortly, but I had enough trouble getting a 90mb file uploaded to youtube without trying to upload a 190mb divx to our server. [update: here it is (189mb) only took two attempts thanks virgin.]
So anyway, here’s the vid. Music by Lydia Alice and Calling Elijah.
