A full review of this demo is still to come, but I wanted to create a placeholder for comments on getting it working, and how I resolved my problem.
I extracted the files and ran the setup utility. My XBCD Xbox 360 Controller wasn’t one of the supported controllers, so I had to customize the “custom model”.
Setting it up was pretty confusing, and I couldn’t fall back on ControlMK since it appears that there’s no keyboard support. So I set some buttons, and thought I’d figure it out by trial and error.
However once I started the demo, it ended up on a sort of splash screen with a pointer that I couldn’t move. I tried the mouse, and I tried moving my controller in every direction but it didn’t work. After searching many pages, I encountered people for whom it had worked, so I switched various controls by trial and error.
Ultimately, I managed to get a mix of settings for which I could move the pointer (extremely slowly and erratically). There is one VERY important thing to remember:
In the game, pitch (up and down) are inverted, so to move the cursor down, you actually have to push up on your joystick.
With that said, these are the associations I have for by XBCD Xbox 360 Controller, hopefully this is of some use to you even if you don’t have the same controller.
I should also add that once you get into the game, control seems to be fluid and clean, and while I only played it for a few minutes, it seems to be worth the trouble. You need to click on the image in the middle of the screen with button A (with my setup). You’ll know it’s working when the music starts.
