Apparently, 11% of Galactic Civ II’s visitors (to their website) heard about the game from Penny Arcade.
They are certainly a powerful force in the industry, and drive a lot of my game knowledge.
So it shouldn’t be surprising that the first I heard of Quake Wars was from one of Tycho’s front page posts.
After following the link from Penny, viewing the screenshots, and picking my jaw up off the ground, I was able to get some info.
As can be guessed from the name, the publisher is Activision and developer is Splash Damage.
In terms of a release date, gamespot is saying Q3 2006. I read this as July – September.
One site even suggested it could be released as soon as June 1st. The problem is that their premise behind that statement is no longer completely true. EBGames is now saying 5th September while Walmart is sticking to their 1st June “should ship” date.
Some are playing their cards close to their chests and saying only 2006.
Hopefully we’ll see a demo sooner rather than later, as it should be hot stuff.
One thing we can be sure of is this. It will be playable at E3 (10-12 May) which is less than a month away. I don’t think it’s impossible that it could launch June 1st, and if it did, it would be a big move for the game.
With BF 2142 and Unreal 2007 slated for Q4 2006, this could be the chance to get the jump on them. I would doubt however, that it would impinge much on the sales to the loyal followers of those two franchises (including myself).
I guess all we can do is wait and see.
The impact of costs does not have a consequence on the fund worth and its returns, which is probably the most special feature of the ETF.
